6-1-4-Value of MRI in diagnosis of mediastinal masses

1-When CT results is equivocal.
2-Assess vascular invasion without contrast injection(essential in patients with contrast allergy).
3-Invasion of the spines and cord lesions.
4-Can differentiate between masses and consolidation.

Central mass with Golden “S” sign of proximal tumour (arrows) and distal collapse.

So MRI can differentiate between cystic and solid masses as CT and consolidation from masses also as CT but without needs for contrast injection.
More sensitive than CT in post operative changes.
Insensitive for detection of calcium.
