Cavitary necrosis

It is a complication of pneumonia in children.

-A complication of severe pneumonia.

-Usually is associated with staplylococcal pneumonia.

-Severely ill patient.

-Usually treated medically.

-Surgical excision in cases of progressive sepsis and shock.

-Caused by thrombotic occlusion of alveolar capillaries leading to ischemia, necrosis and liquefaction resulting in fluid filled cavities with expectorated fluid resulting in air fluid cavities present within pneumonic patches. 

-Complete recovery with clinical treatment after 40-60 days.
