Soft tissues - look again at overall amount, then check for the following: calcifications, obvious mass effect, abnormal air collections (called subcutaneous emphysema), and soft tissue companion shadow for the clavicle (this is a normal but variable finding).
Bones - look at each bone for the following items (notice again the progression from general to increasingly specific detail throughout the review). If your anatomic memory is hazy, refresh with a review of the gross anatomy radiology review program.

- overall size, shape, and contour of each bone.
- the density or mineralization
- compare cortical thickness to medullary cavity, trabecular pattern, look for erosions, fractures, any lytic or blastic regions.
- at joints, are articular relationships normal, joint spaces narrowed, widened, any calcification in the cartilages, air in the joint space, abnormal fat pads, etc.
